Who Are We?

Straddling London and Edinburgh, Outcrop is an independent poetry magazine looking for strong poetic voices to herald the poetic future.

Founded in July of 2022, Outcrop is still at the beginning of its journey. We are certain however, that our generation has and will create incredible work. Work that needs spaces to be exhibited and discussed.

The most important of our goals at Outcrop is the establishment of a community. Without community, there is no art and there is no Outcrop.

So, if you want to review someone’s poetry, or have strong views on the importance of poetry and art, or perhaps you have knocked up a nifty little sonnet; send it in.

We cannot wait to explore together!

Thank you, and welcome to Outcrop Poetry.

Editor in Chief

I can’t believe that poetry is really about sitting on your own and scribbling (although that is certainly part of it). Poetry is about being out in the world, about interactions with people and things.

The best bit about editing Outcrop is seeing a community grow out of it. From the poets we publish, to our readers, and everyone involved in our events, YOU are what makes this project, and this art wonderful.

About me:

I am a British-Armenian writer currently based in Edinburgh. I have been editing Outcrop for a year and a bit. Some of my favourite poets are John Ashbery, WH Auden, Terence Hayes and Louise Glück.

I have had work published in WAX Poetry and was recently shortlisted for the Louis Edwards Memorial Prize.

Hello there!

Issue 3 is my first with Outcrop, and I couldn’t be more excited to be working on this publication. The community created around this magazine is so creative and talented and open; it has been a joy to read such brilliant writing. We’ve been hard at work bringing Issue 3 to life, and I can’t wait for you to see it!

A little about me:

I’m a Cuban-American poet whose work focuses on the intersection of culture, identity and senses of place. As of this month, I will be a graduate of the University of Edinburgh with an MSc in Creative Writing!

Earlier this year, I was shortlisted for the Grierson Verse Prize, and my work has appeared in Interpret Magazine, Gutter, and various local anthologies.
